Erectile Dysfunction, also known as impotence, is the inability for a man to get or maintain an erection. Impotence can be caused by an abnormal blood flow to or from the penis, nerve damage, abnormal hormone levels, medications or psychological reasons.
Erectile dysfunction can be easily treated. Patients will need a complete history and physical examination and blood tests in order to determine which treatment is appropriate. There are numerous medications to help treat impotence, from pills to injections. If medication doesn’t work, surgery may be an option. Your physician can discuss these options with you in greater detail.
