laser is a special type of laser used to vaporize obstructing prostate tissue. It is an outpatient procedure done in the hospital or surgery center and usually performed under general anesthesia. The Plasmabutton similarly vaporizes obstructing prostate tissue but uses electric energy to do so. It is also an outpatient procedure done under general anesthesia.
Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy of the prostate (TUMT) is microwave surgery that is used to treat an enlarged prostate. A special catheter with an antenna inside is used to generate microwave energy into the prostate in order to heat and eliminate enlarged tissue. It is generally performed in the physician’s office with local anesthesia, but can also be done as an outpatient procedure in a hospital or surgery center.
